New hotel is built, and the brand is changed
The SK Group entered into a franchise agreement with global hotel brand Sheraton, and opened the massive Sheraton Walkerhill Hotel with 538 rooms spanning 22 floors. With a total area of over 52,000 square meters, and equipped world-class facilities like a performance/dinner theater that can hold 720 people, restaurants, casinos, the hotel quickly became known as one of the best hotels in Korea.

Convention Center Opens

Kimchi Research Center is established (SUPEX Kimchi)
The Walkerhill Kimchi Research Center was created in 1989 and became the first hotel-run institution dedicated to researching the wide range of flavors and nutritional aspects of Korea's fermented vegetable dish.
